Providence Church is a family.

We relate to each other as brothers and sisters who have been brought to a saving relationship with God as our heavenly Father through Jesus Christ His Son. Because of this, we are very interested in helping families learn to live together in their homes in ways that bring glory and honor to God. We encourage husbands and wives to pursue their callings in marriage according to God’s Word and parents to grow in biblical child training. We also have a deep love for and concern about widows, remembering that the Lord takes special interest in them. Single parents and single adults are also a vital part of our church and are encouraged to meet their special challenges and use their special opportunities in submission to God’s revealed will.

Family Ministry Plan

What is “Family Ministry”?

Family ministry can be defined as  “the process of intentionally and persistently coordinating a ministry’s proclamation and practices so that parents are acknowledged, trained, and held accountable as the primary disciple-makers in their children’s lives.”[1]

Why Family Ministry?

At Providence Church, we understand our calling is to equip families to honor Christ in their hearts, teach Christ in their homes, and proclaim Christ in their community. This conviction is based on the biblical model of discipleship in the home.

  • Ephesians 6:4 commands fathers concerning their children: “bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
  • Deuteronomy 6:6-9 outlines our responsibility concerning God’s Word: “these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

The Plan for Family Ministry at Providence

Communicate the Vision:

Equipping families to honor Christ in their hearts, teach Christ in their homes, and proclaim Christ in their communities.

Model the Vision:

Presenting parents with opportunities to see the vision lived out by leadership and others already committed to the work of discipling their children.

Equip the Family:

Formal and informal teaching moments, from Bible Studies to small groups, through one-on-one discipleship, providing parents with tools and resources to disciple their children to honor Christ in their hearts through the teaching of Christ in their home and proclamation of Christ to the community.
